Happy New Year

A Happy New Year to you all…..and may it be considerably better than 2021!

But it won’t be if we don’t take heed of the changes in our society.

We have seen governments taking on arbitrary powers to combat Covid…..and being reluctant to give them up.

We have seen private companies…Facebook, Youtube and Twitter……deciding what we can and cannot say and can or cannot read.

We have seen the rise of ‘hate crime’, where it is sufficient for someone to feel offended for Plod to appear on your doorstep.

We have seen respected academics sacked for holding unpopular views.

We have seen police giving more attention to controlling the public than protecting them from crime.

We have seen the rich get richer and the poor poorer, the latter stigmatised as lazy and workshy while those attributes should be realistically assigned to the former.

We have sick societies, so, in 2022, prepare to get up and stand up for your rights

  1. She has indeed a lovely voice….I suspect that the year to come will not improve unless we get off our backsides and vote with out wallets as well as our feet.
Your friendship means a lot to me…so stay safe and well!
By the way we now have two more pups….in poor condition, but improving rapidly.

  2. Wishing you and Leo all the best for 2022.

2021 has been memorable for all the wrong reasons. Time for Batman to kick into action and destroy all those evil people. 🙂

    1. You don’t need Batman, just put a pait of wings on Podge and she’ll soon sort out the world order.
Hoping for a good year ahead fpr you all…and good luck with a solution to the disposal of canine calling cards.

  3. Ditto.
Proof chicken soup doesn’t cure everything….so nobody chicken out….besides you’d be harassed for papers, proof of organic origin, and still that wouldn’t be enough. “Some days chicken; somedays feathers?” Tired of all the fluff
Stay wary and Happy New Year

  4. An excellent voice indeed. When did you record that….?

An important year socially, either the people take back control or we lose it for a long time.

Personally, I hope you and the master have a good year, and it would appear that with two more pups good things are already pouring in to keep you busy! Tee Hee!
All the best to You and Leo.

    1. You are right…if people do nothing they condemn their children and grandchildren to a powerless future.
Thank you for your kind wishes…..and yes, the two new additions are making their presence felt……

  5. We do indeed, methinks, need to re-design and re-build the world as though humans mattera and corporations do not. Perhaps also rid ourselves of this notion that “governments” are there to tell us -how- to live, rather than to simply keep the lights on and the drains clear while -we- all just get on with it. JMHO.

In spite of the nonsense, I do hope that you have a very, very happy new year indeed, one and all.

  6. I heartily agree – but what a struggle when most of the world seems to have been transmogrified into sheep….though from my own experience of same sheep have a greater idea of independent ction.
Yes, better carpe diem and gather the rosebuds while we may…….

  7. Wish I could watch the video!! Happy New Year to you bioth and good health. I hope 2022 is a better year for us all. Diane xx

  8. Happy New Year to you and Leo and of course the Tribe of Thugs. The lady in that video has a lovely voice. What language was she singing? Hope all is bright and wonderful in Costa Rica in the new year and that you have the time and opportunity to carpe diem rather than having to carpe jugulum in respect of your adversaries, which I am informed by vulgar Latin experts is “seize them by the throat.”

  9. Many thanks!
The lady is singing in the Lallans, I believe, though Tynecastle may be better informed.
As for carpe diem…let me pass you a favourite poem of our vet in France, by Ronsard

As for carpe jugulam, consult the works of Terry Pratchett

  10. Helen, you said it all. People are loath to speak up now, because it has become so dangerous, even on private social media. And too many people are simply unaware that their rights have been taken away without their realizing it. We have to unite and raise our voices. It takes courage, and you’ve made that first step! I shall follow. Here’s to a better 2022…I pray.

    1. We really do have to stand up for ourselves. We inherited a society which aimed for the good of all those willing to participate in it…we are having imposed upon us a society which treats us as milking cows to supply the table of the obscenely rich.

  11. I know it’s not too late to say that I couldn’t agree more. We need to stand up for reason whenever we can. And I hope it’s not too late to wish you and yours all the very best of everything – Happy Slightly Used Year!

  12. What a terrific and serene voice! It is not often one hears such a voice. It will echo in my ears for the next few hours and that will indeed be more pleasant than thinking of the dishevelled social legacy we leave to the children of today. In a way, it feels like the decline of the Roman empire rotting from the inside out.

    1. It is a lovely voice….
Does the current situation remind you of Cavafy ‘ Waiting for the Barbarians’? As if, in a way, they were the solution….but they are a chimera.

      1. Waiting for the Barbarians – yes, but they intuitively know they are not coming after all but can’t be bothered to mount any kind of offensive, or counter effort.
